Retail STAR® is a true 32-bit Windows application that uses the best in programming tools from Inprise, Microsoft, and Centura Corp. In addition, it uses a powerful SQL (Structured Query Language) database. The database is a true "client server" design, and is 100% open. It has been designed with a high degree of discipline, which allows the end user to effectively access the data in the database through third-party programs using ODBC tools and standards.

The client server approach, along with SQL database structure, offers the retailer a system and database which is highly scalable, secure, recoverable and very fast. It also has the highest degree of data integrity built into it. With the built-in database replication tools, Retail STAR® is ideal for multiple store retailers who wish to share all, or large amounts of data between different locations.

The "object-oriented" programming design allows Retail STAR® to be modified and enhanced very quickly, with the highest degree of program integrity, while minimizing the chances of introducing hard to find program errors. The relational database design is another key component in making this product one which can grow and advance rapidly.

In a data entry and retrieval environment, which is characteristic of retail automation, Windows can be cumbersome to use and slower to accomplish certain tasks due to its user interface design. This is why our designers went to great lengths to add a totally functional keyboard and "one-touch" buttons to the entire application, while maintaining the Windows standards. The result is that Retail STAR® offers all of the benefits of the Windows environment while also adding back in the best of a keyboard-driven system for data entry. This user-friendly design truly offers the retailer the best of both the Windows world and its predecessors.

Retail STAR® is Internet Ready. CAM's i.STAR Internet storefront software allows the retailer to create their own e-commerce storefront from their Retail STAR® system without the help of a Web Master to build or maintain it. i.STAR and Retail STAR® allow the retailer to create a shared shopping experience for the customer by integrating the "on-line" shopping experience with the brick & mortar operations, while leveraging all of the information already input into the Retail STAR® system.
